The Chaos Theory, a complex branch of mathematics, is the study of dynamic systems and the initial conditions that affect them. This ‘Butterfly Effect,’ theory is represented graphically by a whirling dynamic form, whose intricacies evoke the fluid, sometimes violent swings of the banking world. The constructed formation was generated by 2 perfect circles (rational) linked & pushed to structural extreme (irrational) while 2,500 individually hung light fixtures form a point cloud in response to the 14,000lb steel and aluminum ring.. Structural coordination for this project was a great undertaking; the Metro-North railroad runs just below the surface of Park Avenue, necessitating the form’s full integration into the structural system of the building’s topping slab without penetration below.
